3 weeks

I got home from my quick little get away.

My new guy picked me up from the airport.

We spent the evening together... nothing big, just dinner and headed to my house to watch a movie.

He asked me, "We've been dating a little more than 3 weeks, right?"

As a guy, I didn't really expect him to remember.

That's when we calculated back..."July 8th, huh?" he asked.

We realized it was our 3 week "anniversary".

He told me (jokingly) to make sure I didn't get that date mixed up with our wedding anniversary.

I told him, "Wow. You actually went there. Mr. 'When did we start dating again' "

But, in all actuality, it kinda freaked me out.

He's a nice guy ...and I enjoy my time with him ...and we've talked about trying not to rush things.

But him calling me pet names ... and mentioning wedding dates again makes me want to run for the hills.

Seriously... Is there something wrong with me?

I stayed with guys (now looking back) that were really sh***y to me and here I am with a great guy who has been nothing but honest and kind and respectful of me... and I want to run!

I sometimes feel like someone needs to come knock some sense into me...

  1. Hi, I've been following your blog for a while but today's my first time commenting and just wanted to say there's nothing wrong with you. The desire to run and the freaking out are a self-preservation thing (I think). Relax and enjoy what you guys have got, it sounds like this change in karma has been heading your way and owes you. Have a good weekend.

  2. If there's something wrong with you then there's something wrong with me too. If you like him and have any feelings for him then try to stick it out for a bit. Try not to let that one comment be the deal breaker. That being said, I completely understand what you mean about wanting to run! Hmmm...not sure I've been helpful? :)

  3. I hope that this guy turns out to be someone who will be a very positive person in your life but I don't think that your desire to run is necessarily a bad thing.

Statements like the one he made are often said to put the "rush" on someone. It can be done to create a sense of greater intimacy and commitment than is really there.

While you might be a little overly cautious due to past experience, your gut and intuition still should not be ignored.

A little caution won't hurt while you are getting to know someone's true character and intentions.

  4. We are two peas in a pod. I am perfect at destroying all good relationships. The fear of things being too good stress me out.

Hang in there. Give him a chance and see where it goes. : )

  5. Okay, after all these comments, I'd be happy to come down and "knock some sense" into you. Or do it virtually. BANG! C'MON, GIRL! STICK WITH THIS GUY UNTIL YOU FEEL LIKE IT IS DEFINITELY NOT GOING TO WORK. FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN WITH OTHERS IN YOUR SITUATION, SOME PEOPLE JUST DON'T WANT TO WASTE TIME, HAVING ALREADY DONE THAT, AND ARE MOVING ON! HE KNOWS WHAT HE DOESN'T WANT AND SO FAR YOU ARE PROVING TO PASS THOSE TESTS.

How was that? :) Love you!

  6. There's nothing wrong with you. This is normal. Don't run unless he gives you a reason to. It's wise to be apprehensive but don't let it be to your detriment.
